Peter Murdy wrote Roots, Stem, and Flowers twenty years ago when he served as pastor of the Congregational Church of Eastford, Connecticut. He wanted a tool that would help meet the goal of the Cambridge Platform’s standards for church membership: “… These things are required of all church members: repentance from sin and faith in Jesus Christ. Therefore repentance and faith are the things about which individuals must be examined before they are granted membership in a church.”

Over the past twenty years, Peter has revised his membership manual several times to the point that he is now “reasonably satisfied” with it
